They enlarge when the body goes into overdrive from an infection or poisonous contaminants. Dr. Burkhardt collected lymph nodes from the deceased for further analysis. To his shock, their lymph nodes swelled to three inches— nearly triple the size of any previous pathological dissection. 

Internal Damage: Effects from the gene therapy shots were prolific and varied widely. Whatever location hosted an immune response dictated which organs were attacked. As Dr. Burkhardt performed the autopsies he noticed anomalous deterioration and permeation of unidentified alloys.
